Tommy's favorite things!

Tommy is doing really well. We went to the doctor for his 8 week appointment last week and he is in the 90th percentile for height and weight....shocker, right?! Drumroll please...he weighed in at 13 pounds 15 ounces. He has almost doubled his birth weight and he is only 2 months old! He has cut out one feeding at night so maybe that will slow down the weight gain. He was so brave through his shots, only cried for about 15 seconds but it was a rough weekend. By Sunday he was back to his sweet self after 2 very long nights!

I have been doing too much reading which has been stressing me out more than helping, so Ryan finally took my books away from me last weekend. We still use one, and only one, to help us, but we are trying to rely more on our parental instincts since all the books seem to contradict eachother. There is just too much darn information out there!

Now Tommy has definitely taken an interest in the world around him. As you can see below, he loves his swing, not because it is a swing, but because of the birds and the mirror above it. He also loves to kick on his mat and look all around. He is getting really strong and is doing great holding his head up. He rolled over from his belly to his back today...you can kind of see how that happened below. He is fascinated with mirrors and loves to look at himself. He has also discovered his tongue and loves to stick it out. I tried to capture that, along with his chubby arm rolls in the pic below.

Overall, we are doing well. Still lots of challenges to figure out, but we are getting a little more sleep and he is more fun every day. Enjoy the pics and we'll keep you posted!!

Gram comes to visit

Here are some more pics of our little guy. Gram came down to visit for a week and had great Tommy time! He started to smile while she was here...coincidence??!! It is hard to capture his smile on camera since they come and go so fast but we got a couple! We go in this Friday for his 8 week checkup and shots. Should be an adventure! Maybe he'll be so worn out afterwards that he'll sleep through the night???!!!

Ryan's first post to Tommy

After looking at my baby pictures, I have some insight to T-Bone, so here you go. You are officially a Bauchiero male. For the rest of your life, the first place you will gain weight and last place you will lose it will be in your face. When you are heavy, you will really have 3 or 4 chins, but at least 2 of them will be buried below 1 really big one. Don't worry though, as you get older and active, you will thin out and eventually be ripped. Because you will always be so active, people will tell you that you won't follow the Bauchiero trend, this is a lie. College will come and go and you will fall in love with a smoking hot woman, just like your daddy did. Life will happen and so will "dunlaps disease", where your belly dun laps over your belt. The only saving grace is that you will still look way younger than you are, and older women will still want to pinch your cheeks. If you are in sales, let them, it is the best closing technique your daddy has. It is for this reason that I no longer diet or exercise. Oh the sacrifices I make for the good of the family and work.

I think the verdict is out, Tommy officially looks like me. Thanks to Grand Nan for the pictures. We will try to keep updating his pics with mine to track the correlation between my youth and his. We hope everyone is doing well and look forward to the coming months when you get to meet Tommy.

Reflux strikes the chunky monkey!

I know it's been a while since I posted some pics but things have been a little crazy around here! We took Tommy to the doctor this week with suspicions that reflux had left it's mark on another Bauchiero baby. Although his case is not nearly what his cousin Carter's was like, it was definitely taking a toll on all of us in the Bauchiero household. Tommy had not been sleeping and his peaceful demeanor turned to fits of crying and screaming when he was laid down or when he was eating. The doctor confirmed that reflux was most likely the culprit so our little buddy is now taking Zantac and we are all sleeping better (although not yet through the night, but hey, he is only 6 weeks old!)

The funniest news from the doctor is in regard to Tommy's weight! When we took him in for his mysterious diaper rash 3 weeks ago, he weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces which was an impressive pound and a half over his birthweight. We could tell that he had gained weight since he has developed a second chin which you can clearly see below, and is working hard on a third, and since he is filling out his 0-3 month clothing perfectly. Ryan and I were taking bets on his weight as the nurse took him away. My guess was 9 pounds 10 ounces, Ryan guessed 9 pounds 12 ounces. Well, our little man weighs 11 pounds 9 ounces now!!! He is gaining weight at about twice the normal rate. Perhaps I should start a milk production business?? So he is QUITE healthy and growing FAST! Here are a few more pics of our biscuit now that he is back to his happy self!

About a week and a half ago, Aunt Gina came for her visit! She was so tired of hearing all about Tommy from everyone else! She helped me out a lot with her motherly wisdom and we had a great visit. She and Tommy definitely bonded. We can't wait to bring him up to Nashville in March to meet everyone else!

Phototherapy

OK, I know this is not current, but my mom sent me some pics of Tommy during his phototherapy. I wanted everyone to be able to see what the contraption what like that he was on! It fit right in his crib which. You can see by the look on his face that he really didn't mind it! It was harder for us than him since we couldn't hold him except for nursing every 2 hours. We haven't had any lasting complications or damage from the jaundice...he is quite the healthy little guy!

Tommy loves his grandparents!

Gram and Grandpa came down right after Tommy was born and will be back soon I'm sure!!

Tommy had lots of fun with Grand nan and Pops when they came to visit at the end of December! You can see that New Year's Day was busy for Tommy. He wore his UT outfit for our bowl game and then Grand nan put him in cardinal red for the USC game. Tommy is doing great! During his awake time, he is a curious, sweet and bright eyed little guy. We are making progress with day time naps and night time sleeping which is great for everyone! We can't believe he is already 4 weeks old!

Tommy update

Life with Tommy has proven to be quite the adventure! A few days after he was born, he had to undergo 54 hours of phototherapy to get rid of his jaundice. That was a pretty taxing couple days, but we survived and he is all better, and no longer "Big Orange" (as much as we appreciated his UT spirit!). Since then, we have been coping with some sleepless nights, mysterious gas & diaper rashes and a stuffy nose! But he is such a sweet baby and we are loving every minute. At his 2 week check up he was healthy as could be and was already a pound over birth weight...the doctor was very impressed! Here are a couple pics of Tommy now that he is healthy and back to his normal color!
